ST. SIMONS ISLAND, GA (AP) — The University of Georgia Athletic Association’s board of directors approved an additional $2 million contribution to help the school’s academic programs get through difficult financial times.
The contribution approved Thursday is in addition to the $6 million pledged by the Athletic Association to academic programs last year, to be paid out over three years.
Under a proposal by Athletics Director Damon Evans, the latest donation allocates $500,000 for need-based scholarships, $500,000 to launch a new merit-based scholarship program and $1 million to fund four professorships.
